The fantastic Paramo de Oceta

We left the city of Mongui early in the morning in order to avoid the bad weather as the guides recommended us. If the beginning was alright, we ended under a strong rain all time long.

The Paramo de Oceta is located above 3,700 meters high, almost 1,000 meters higher than the town. The Paramos in Colombia provide a lot of water, after this trek we understood why.

The plant is the typical one from the Paramo. It grows by stacking on the previous leaves. At the beginning, there were only small plants, below 30 cms, but we ended with some close to 3 meters at the highest point of the trek.

The surrounding region
Not only the Paramo de Oceta, but I discovered a complete region that was beautiful and interesting.

Mongui
Mongui was the city located below the Paramo de Oceta. One of the most beautiful city visited so far in South America. The buildings in the center were white, green and red. It reminded me Popayan except that the adding colors made it more attractive. During the stay, I learned how to play billiards with no hole and only 3 balls.

Laguna de Tota
The Tota lake is located 3,000 meters high and is bordered with a sand beach. Nonetheless, due to the water temperature, we didn’t go into the lake.
