Cuicocha Lake

Cuicocha lake is located beneath the Cotacachi volcano. Due to the clouds, we didn’t see it, however, it is a 4600 meters high volcano. The closest town to reach the lake is Quiroga, where taxi or cab can take you for 4$.

The lake is surrounded by a trek of 14 kms between 3,100 and 3,400 meters. The place was incredibly quiet. Except for 2 other groups of tourist, we met nobody.

If the sky was blue and the sun was shining, it changed quickly. After doing half of the way, clouds appeared and the sky became gray. Hopefully, we didn’t suffer from the rain.

We did the trek in around 3h30 with my friend Guillaume that injured himself at the knee. Although I found the lake less beautiful than the one in Quilotoa, this trek was worth doing it. Also the view around, with the Cayambe and Imbabura volcanoes, was astonishing.
