After being sick when I arrived, I continued to suffer due to the altitude. Sucre is located at 2,700 meters high. At the beginning, I got a headache and difficulties to eat. Only after three weeks of being at this altitude or higher, I could be normal again. Aside from this trouble, I was able to enjoy the city in any case.
The peaceful and beautiful city of Sucre
The design of the city
Like sugar blocks scattered in the mountains, the buildings give the beauty to the city. The center is filled with white buildings decorated with colored. From the top of the city, there is a place called La Recoleta. From there, the graceful white church faces an overview of the whole city.
Just a few blocks from the main place stands the principal market. Here, you can find everything from the juice to the flowers. The mixed colors of the fruits, cakes and spices were wonderful. Moreover, contrary to one of my believing of huge markets, it was not crowded, neither with a bad smelling. Definitely, my favorite one.
Chocolate cure
One of the specialties of the city is the chocolate. Quite strange, for a city in the middle of the mountains. However, the jungle is back just a few hours from the city after Santa Cruz. On top of that, lots of manufacturers have emerged and now are the best in Bolivia. I don’t have to say it, that I did a chocolate cure for all the months without.
A discovery of the Bolivian tradition
Indigenous legacy
I love art, I love music and I love to dance. The indigenous legacy satisfied all my expectations. Each region in Bolivia has its own textile arts, music types and dance costumes. During my visit to the Indigenous Art Museum, I discovered the traditional ropes and event. But my favorite part was the textile, the creations are really impressive. They used between 2 and 3 colors mixed so that to show simplified shapes of real or imaginary scenes.
Not only the textile arts, I also enjoyed folklore dance performances. First, I saw a dance show inside a restaurant. During that show, I saw the difference between the styles and costumes from the low and winery region of Tajira to the high city of La Paz. I loved this show so much, that I went to a more professional version later on.
Tarabuco market
Far from Sucre, at 1h30 deep in the countryside, there is the city of Tarabuco. The main city of one of the indigenous community. My main reason to go until there was to visit the Sunday market. The market is a pleasure as the seller are not aggressive and the prices very attractive. I bought all my equipment for surviving in my followed adventures in the cold part of Bolivia.
National day
My occupations
Climbing day
One Sunday, I went with my flatmate and other friends to the mountains over Sucre. There are nice spots for climbing. Though without special difficulties, I enjoyed putting my climbing shoes again.
Dancing in the city
In the city, there are some places for dancing salsa. Immediately, I jumped on the occasion to practice. If the classes were generally disappointing due to the low level, I met nice dancers. It was an endless pleasure to dance there.
Moreover, everyday people meets at the main place for dancing breakdance. I didn’t practice there, as every time I showed off there was no music. However, after salsa party, I did some performances against Bolivian.
