Canos Cristales – red seaweeds in the water
A tough and expensive journey for a mitigated result
The challenge to get there
We didn’t want to take a bus to get there. The reason is that it took more than 10 hours on an earth road full of potholes in a small micro bus. Thus, after the visit of the Tatacoa desert, we moved to Villavicencio. It was another full day journey in buses.
From Villavicencio, we showed up at the airport a morning and we took a plane to La Macarena. The entrance city to the park where the rivers are. We preferred Villavicencio to Bogota since flights were daily and cheaper.
Before reaching the rivers, we had to take a boat, a jeep and walk a bit. And finally, we saw the seaweeds.
The place was not so impressive
We have been disappointed by the result of the seaweeds in the rivers. First, the resulting color was not so bright. Moreover, the color didn’t make the view exceptional. Although the nature around us was beautiful, it was simpler than most of other points we have seen during the journey.
On top of that, the price of the expedition was high. First, the plane cost 480,000COP (137€) and the one day tour cost 260,000COP (75€). The agency told us that new taxes have been added by the government that explicates the increasing of the price. For us, the price is not worth the result.
